Garba-Fusion research - a research of Garba and contemporary

My journey

Hello, everyone. I would like today to talk today about my performance and post-talk at the University of Bedfordshire.

I had the amazing opportunity to share my 18 minute solo called 108 circles as a result of my research of Garba-Fusion to students in the performing arts and dance course.

A Challenging day...

It was a challenging day for me as I would share a fully finished solo for the first time but not refined yet. I still felt the need of working and setting certain sections before preforming it to an audience. However, this was a good time to test it, talk about it, receive feedback and re-think.

Stamina, clarity and power of movement is something that I also have to work on as the movement is quite dynamic through the whole 18 minutes therefore, I feel the need of becoming stronger and clearer.

However....

It was a successful day for me as I had the chance to perform it for first time as a full run to an audience and do a post talk about it. This made me rethink my solo and process creation and motivated me to keep going and to not give up as it is part of any process.

I also hired a videographer that recorded my full run and made a trailer. This will be posted in the blog post 108 circles.

Before performance recording for future trailer and full run:

Performance and Talk footage of the day:

Interesting questions that got me thinking later on:

What did you discovered?

What was your creative process?

What were the challenges or achievements?

Do I require a literal explanation of each section for myself or the audience?

Is everything aligning properly? Am I linking the pieces accurately? Is it logical? Does it have to be logical?

Typically, I choreograph with a specific idea and theme in mind. However, feeling somewhat directionless this time, I chose to create without focusing on a particular theme or narrative. I considered Garba-Fusion, blending Garba and contemporary styles, as a way to merge my two new identities and attempt to redefine myself.

Next Post....

I will give a detailed post about my solo 108 circles showcasing the trailer and the full run link.

I will be teaching to adults another class of Garba-Fusion at OU dance in Milton Keynes.

Really excited to be able to teach to more people this movement research.

Keep updated, almost there  :)

Enjoying the process!
