Garba-Fusion research - a research of Garba and contemporary

My journey

Hello, everyone. I would like today to talk about my accomplishments while developing my creative practice in this project.

This is a brief overview of my journey that I have shared with you in my blog, post by post.

Overall, I intended to research a new movement language, connect with people, focus on training and creation.

Since the start of my project I have:

  • Attended Garba classes with GarbaFlow in Harrow

  • Attended two days Garba Intensive with Indian company Thangaat Garba in London

  • Attended a week intensive of contemporary dance with OU Dance Festival

  • Delivered a Garba workshop in Bedford Hindu Temple assisting Sagar Patel and networking with the community

  • Attended a pre-Navratri festival to play Garba in Brohman Community Hall {Bedford}

  • Shared ideas and performed a 5 minute solo at Re:Ignite Dance festival

  • Performed another 5 minutes solo at Project OK Festival

  • Travelled to India, Gujarat, to attend Garba lessons, Navratri festival and Garba showcases.

  • Created a 17 minutes solo with accompanying workshop aiming to present to venues and other projects

  • Acquired feedback of my solo work from Amalia Garcia

  • Attended private Garba lessons with Sagar Patel in Bedford

  • Created a new website that showcases this research and a blog sharing my journey

  • Connected with Parle Patel from GarbaFlow - an interview of Garba and future projects

  • Taught a Garba-Fusion workshop at Donatella's School of Contemporary Dance in Bedford to young students age 11 to 14. Link: https://www.instagram.com/p/DFixFzbt9lZGhqb_2UBEHxV2P-ZVZ72HINHgqQ0/?igsh=MmRuYjY0MHhwamUy

  • Taught Garba-Fusion workshop at OU Dance in Milton Keynes to adults of all levels

  • Performed my full solo for first time with Q&A post talk at The University of Bedfordshire

  • Recorded professionally my solo and created a trailer.

  • Represented in Mótus Dance website to deliver Garba-Fusion workshops to primary and secondary schools in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. Website: Schools Workshops | MÓTUS Dance

Future...

In the near future I have planned and agreed to:

  • Teach a Garba-Fusion workshop for Two Thirds Sky youth company called Dance 2 -- date to be confirmed

  • Teach a Garba-Fusion workshop for DriftProdance

  • Contact Jose Agudo Company to have the possibility to learn more about his choreographic fusion methods and his experience in fusion of styles

  • Contact Pagravdanceco to learn more about their new Garba outdoor dance work called Garbh

  • Keep developing the solo and this research of Garba-fusion

  • Create an interactive and immersive performance that showcases a 'Garba night during Navratri with a contemporary twist'

  • Collaborate with more artists in the Garba and contemporary community to share ideas and movement

Next Post...

In my upcoming post, I will discuss some of the challenges I faced during this research.

Learning in process!
