Garba- fusion
About the Project
Garba- Fusion is a project funded by Arts Council England. Marta has received help to develop her own creative practice {DYCP} on this project.

What is Garba-Fusion?
Garba - Fusion consists on a research between 2 movement styles: Garba {Indian- folk-dance style from India, Gujarat} and contemporary. These styles share sense of community, often performed in circular formations, with an awareness of one’s body and each other’s, with continuous movement flow and groundedness.

Marta is interested in how these movement styles relate to each other and can be fused to create new movement languages, as no one else in the sector is exploring this. It could bring together different creative communities to celebrate dance styles and cultures.

She aims to develop her own creative voice and movement style drawing on contemporary and Garba. She will use this to continue to connect with the regional dance community through a range of trailblazing performances and workshops, to raise awareness of Garba amongst the contemporary dance world.

Any further goals?
Marta is currently exploring a solo called 108 circles that showcases Garba-Fusion with accompanying workshop.
Marta aims to push herself creatively and develop a pioneering movement vocabulary and dance solo, and to find opportunities to share her new practice, raise awareness and celebrate Garba.
