Garba-Fusion research - a research of Garba and contemporary

My journey

Hello, everyone. I'm here again to share my solo development journey. It is been a long journey constructing and deconstructing material, challenging myself and trusting the process.

I have been mentored by Amalia Garcia during this process.

However, I have finalised my solo with workshop included,

Grateful to say that the space I mainly used to practice was Bedford Hindu Temple. A temple rich in spirituality, such as Garba, was the best setting for my creation and research.

Studio Time...

This solo is around 18 minutes long and the main motif it is the circles and the meaning behind it. In Garba, circling symbolises many important things such as the circle of life as birth, life , death and reincarnation. Also the constant moving nature against the stillness of this world floating in the universe.

We are a moving identity in a world that stays while everything around is in constant change.

I celebrate womanhood and my capabilities, floating in this universe. I celebrate Garba.

First ideas of exploration around clapping, 'Cept' Garba movement, and floor pathways in circular motion

Exploring dynamism, hand and leg Garba movements with a more deconstructed upper body gesture derived from other creation tasks. Circling.

Exploration of first section of the solo influenced by the previous two explorations. Music against Garba traditional sounds, stepping into contemporary terrain

Third section exploration of the solo using the skirt as an extra element of the performance, playing with the audience perspective as a symbol of this changing world. Constructing again material from the previous explorations. A new Garba-Fusion collage.

Final Product...

I will be recording professionally my final solo. This solo is going to be called 108 circles meaning the amount of circles that should be performed during Navratri in order to connect with that divine energy. Counting 12 circles for each day of the 9 day Navratri Festival.

I will be posting the full video and trailer in this blog once it is finalised.

Next Post....

Keep Updated :)
