Garba-Fusion research - a research of Garba and contemporary

My journey

Participating in the Project Ok Festival organized by Kate Taylor was another significant accomplishment. On this occasion, I had the opportunity to present an additional 5 minutes of my solo, featuring a set choreography, on a more performative stage.

This 5-minute solo emerged from experimenting with the skirt as an additional element of the performance, similar to its use in Garba. In Garba, skirts contribute an extra dimension of flow and dynamism, enhancing the performance's presence and intention.

I wanted to explore this section of the piece as later it would be subject to a possible change

of music and dissection of movement.

Receiving feedback from other professionals, who were also invited by Kate Taylor and with whom I shared the stage, was a wonderful opportunity.

Some pieces of feedback were:

  • They liked the juxtaposition of linear body shapes while creating circles in the space, these two different contrasts

  • They would like to see more circular movements with other body parts in a more asymmetrical way

  • What was my intention behind it? how could I connect more with the audience

  • They liked the way I was playing with the perspective of the audience using the skirt

  • They enjoyed the flow of the piece

  • They could see a fusion happening there

I had also the chance to network and talk about future collaborations. I even shared emails!

My 5 minutes performance:

Next Post...

In my next post, I will share my solo progress and, hopefully, the completed work.

Keep updated, almost there  :)

Enjoying the process!
